Neve Campbell made a big U-turn by returning to the Scream franchise.
The 50-year-old actress played Sidney, a target of a serial killer, in the first film in 1996, and appeared in all sequels except for the sixth film in 2023, but she dropped out of the series due to pay issues.
However, she announced her return to the role on Tuesday (March 24, 12) by sharing a photo of her Scream 7 script on Instagram and captioning it: Sidney Prescott is back!!!”
Neve said: “It was always such a pleasure and honor to play Sidney in Scream.
“My appreciation for these films and what they mean to me will never wane.
“I am so happy and proud to have been asked to bring Sydney back to our screens so respectfully. I couldn’t be happier!!!”
Neve also confirmed that Kevin Williamson, 58, who wrote the original 1996 film Scream, will direct the upcoming seventh film.
He added, “I’ve been really lucky to be able to make these films with both horror master Wes Craven and the incredibly talented team of Matt and Tyler, but over the years I’ve had the pleasure of making these films.” I dreamed of how wonderful it would be to be able to make a movie like this.” These films are helmed by Kevin Williamson.
“And now it’s happened: Kevin Williamson will be directing Scream 7!”
“This is his baby and it was his brilliant mind that dreamed up this world. Kevin is not only an inspiration as an artist, but also a dear friend for many years.
“To all you amazing Scream fans, I hope you’re as excited as I am. See you on set @kevwilliamson.”
Kevin added on Instagram: “It’s been nearly 30 years since my first screenplay, ‘Scream,’ was directed by the legendary Wes Craven.
“I had no idea how it would turn out. Or maybe I’d end up directing the seventh film in the series.
“I’m so grateful and excited and can’t wait to bring back Sidney Prescott in the next chapter of the Scream series and take this journey with Neve and the entire Scream family.
“Thank you, Scream fans. You are the gift that keeps on giving. @nevecampbell See you on set.”
Neve said at the time he left Scream 6 that he felt the offer to return “was not commensurate with the value I brought to the series.”
She told People magazine in 2022 about stepping away from movies:
“It’s going to depend on what they come to me with next. It’s going to have to be different. It’s going to have to be a different attitude, but I don’t know if that’s going to happen.
“If they come to me with numbers that feel right, that make me feel respected and that are consistent with my value that I bring to the franchise, I would be happy to consider (returning).” Sho.”
