David Fincher’s latest film, based on the 1998 French graphic novel, stars Michael Fassbender as a professional assassin who finds himself at the center of an international investigation after his latest mission goes awry.
From our review:
Theoretically, killer It could be seen as a film about the ruthlessness of the gig economy disguised as a crime thriller. It sends the killer into a Russian nesting doll to carry out his missions until there is almost no line between his personal life and his profession. But Fincher and Walker have said little about what we see on screen or the fleeting thematic subtext they introduce. The film is hermetic in its structure, but meager in its artistic purpose. There really isn’t much to it, aside from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ nerve-wracking score.

Remember the GameStop short squeeze of 2021? No? It’s not a problem. Sure, it was a very hectic and wild time, but overall… all it is continuing. If you’re looking for a refresher, this biographical comedy-drama about a middle-class financial analyst who rises to great success on the margins may be just what you’re looking for.
From our review:
where big short It was condescending, but still very entertaining and legitimately informative. dumb moneyThe creators don’t seem interested in explaining what exactly happened in the GameStop scenario, or how it happened at all. The script assumes that the viewer either already knows the story well or doesn’t really care about the financial details and just wants to watch someone they know reenact the news. Most of the terminology is never explained, and the sequence of events that prompted this story is simply shrugged off in favor of a simple “Isn’t this crazy?!” tone.

dicks Starting with other A24 films, we are shooting different types of contemporary films early on. The A24 logo is accompanied by epic music, and its signature high-minded horror is complemented by a tongue-in-cheek theme as Trevor and Craig wonder whether their predicament qualifies as abuse or trauma.
