Jake Bennett has become a forgotten outlook for the Nationals system. However, he can have the effect of Jake Irvin or Mitchell Parker type if he is healthy. After undergoing Tommy John’s surgery in September 2023, Bennett missed out on the entire 2024 campaign. Before that, he seemed ready to quickly raise the minors.
Jake Bennett was the second round pick in the 2022 draft and was known for his plus changeups and good command. He is one of the University of Oklahoma pitchers, NAT has been a choice in recent years, along with others, including Jake Irvin and Cade Cavalli.
His stuff isn’t as loud as Cavalli, but Bennett covers the middle of the spinning. He’s in the recent bullpen speed It was the mid-90s and it was a good sign of his Tommy John Recovery. He should be better off going to start the season. At his best, Bennett can be a Ground ball machineMid- to mid-90s sinker and plus ChangeUp.
When Bennett was on the mound in 2023, he was very impressive before being injured. With 15 starts, he posted a 3.14 ERA with 73 strikeouts in 63 innings. If he returns from an injury that looks like a similar, Bennett can fly through the system. He is a craft left-handed man with an advanced arsenal. But he also has something better than the average “crafty left-handed”.
Over the past 18 months, many NATS starters have made leaps and emerged as solid big league starters. There’s no reason why Bennett can’t do the same in the second half of 2025 or 2026. He had a better outlook than the likes of Jake Irvin or Mitchell Parker. Without injuries, I think Bennett could have done what Parker did last year with ease.
His innings are monitored for returning from Tommy John’s surgery, but the NAT should not waste Bennett’s bullets at a lower level. He should start his year at Double-A Harrisburg. Bennett has a solid feel to pitch with good stuff. If you can choose a Nats Pitcher that can “come out of nowhere” and be a mainstay in your rotation, Jake Bennett is my choice.
