Netflix’s animated series “My Dad The Bounty Hunter” has been canceled by the streaming service after two successful seasons. Despite the series receiving high praise and having a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, Netflix dropped it. The show, created by Everett Downing Jr. and Patrick Harpin, premiered on Netflix on February 9, 2023. The next season was canceled on August 17, 2023.
Beloved for its relatable characters and storylines, the show revolves around two children who sneak onto their father’s latest business trip – only to discover that he’s an intergalactic bounty hunter.
Netflix has reportedly quietly canceled the show. What to watch on NetflixEverett Downing Jr. confirmed the news via email to the media.
“I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with such an incredible team of partners and artists.“ He said.
“It’s an incredible feeling to see your idea come to life. Everyone involved in the show fell in love with Terry, Tess, Lisa, Sean and all of the quirky, wild and crazy characters. Maybe one day I’ll get to revisit this world, but for now these characters and stories will live forever in my heart, free of charge.” Downing Jr. added.
The series has been well-received on Netflix, reaching the top 10 in English-speaking countries worldwide. After the release of season 1, the show also ranked in Nielsen’s top 10 original streaming series. Netflix reports that both seasons have generated millions of hours of viewing time.
Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time Netflix has cancelled a children’s or family-oriented original show – many shows have suffered the same fate, including Ada Twist, The Scientist, Ridley Jones, Spirit Rangers, Oddballs, Maya and the Threesome, He-Man and Masters of the Universe, and many more.
