A year later, emotions are still high. Milwaukee Dancing Grannies lost four of his members of the community in November 2021 when a man drove a car in his parade on Christmas Day in Waukesha. In total, the men killed six people that day and injured nearly 70 others. Walking through this parade brings back memories of that fateful day. Gene Knutson, co-leader of the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies, said, “We know the four of us who fell aren’t here, but we know their last steps were there and we’re back in Waukesha.” The group will be honoring their deceased members on Sunday: “We have poster-sized pictures of the four who have fallen. Some family members will be joining us,” Knutson said. Said Mr. and Mrs. Granny will also be selling gift bags containing “Granny Strong” and “Waukesha Strong” bracelets. This is a way of thanking the community for their love and support. “It is the love and support of our community that keeps us going,” said Nattson. This group, sisters united by tragedy, are making strides toward healing. “We’re building new memories, but we’ll never forget what we had.”
