The Bucs are as good as ever when it comes to quarterback positions. Baker Mayfield has emerged as a franchise quarterback and has had a different opportunity than any other signal character in the history of the franchise. Kyle Trask didn’t get the opportunity with the expanded snap, but the team was comfortable enough to redress him into a one-year contract this offseason.
Trask has been firmly grasping his second job in the last few seasons, but Michael Pratt is looking for it To make that a dilemma for the coaching staff. Speaking recently on the Pewter Report Podcast, Pratt details how his experience learning different offensive systems throughout his football career would put him in a unique position when he would take his game to another level in 2025.

Between high school, college and now the NFL, Pratt has passed numerous flashcards each year to learn about the new system. In the process, he equipped him with the ability to adapt and thrive, whatever the play call was.
“We had four different offensive coordinators in high school, but there were actually five because there were changes to coaching,” Pratt said. “We had five in our four years in high school and four in college, four different offensive coordinators. Last season, there were three different crimes in the calendar year between Tulane, Green Bay and Tampa. This is the 10th year of football and the 13th offense.
Offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard keeps his offense intact next season, giving Pratt the opportunity to truly tweak his game more than ever before, except for a few changes. He hasn’t stopped him from being productive as he threw 9,602 passing yards and 90 passing touchdowns over four seasons for Green Wave. A stable environment can make him wonder as he continues to develop behind Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask.
“You’re exposed to a lot of different things,” Pratt added. “We also have to adapt, we have to learn and find the tools to do that. I think the downside is that it’s hard to get caught up in the rhythm and feel really, really comfortable. One of the big things is that we learn 70 new formations throughout all offseasons, and there are 20 different motions. I’ll just leave it as is and keep it pressing.”
Michael Pratt said, “I have no excuses now.”
Michael Pratt left him as a strange guy in the Bucs quarterback room last season. Pratt was not part of the entire offseason roster, instead spent time with the Packers. It was then that Tampa Bay scooped him up after Green Bay released him in late August.

It worked in terms of really grasping the offense against him, but that allowed him to sit and learn in the same quarterback room as Baker Mayfield. Mayfield knows what it is like to do the same thing throughout his time in the NFL and experience an offensive coordinator. This will be his eighth season, and he will be his ninth offensive coordinator.
“We’ve been kidding about it before,” Pratt said of having a similar background to Mayfield. “We didn’t go into it in depth, but I just asked him about his experience. He said, ‘You have to take it on your chin and get back to work.’ You had to control what my parents always told me [give] Attitude and effort. Ultimately, you can’t choose a coach, so you don’t have any choice. [are].
“When something new comes in, you have to learn something. If you have a good attitude and make a good effort, you can control everything that was my way of thinking through it.
Besides sharing that bond, Pratt enjoys watching Mayfield lead the team. From the way he approaches the game to the respect he commands, it’s truly bravely encouragement and bringing together teams.
“He’s a great guy,” Pratt said. “When you think about my playing style and his playing style, he’s not a quarterback, he’s a football player. Being the ultimate competitor is what sets the locker room fires and I want to fire people. Rep, you’re going to look like crap.

“If you’re a mediocre quarterback or even a good quarterback, you’ll look pretty special if you’re doing all the right things around you. First off, he’s a great quarterback and everyone around him has the ability to play with the best possible possibilities. Inspiration there.”
Pratt admitted that the process comes to town the smoothest as he didn’t want Mayfield and Kyle Trask to overload the quarterback room with questions that took time from his ability to understand former offensive coordinator Liam Cohen’s offensive.
“I don’t have an offseason and coming here at the beginning of the season isn’t time to ask questions. I didn’t want to ask a million questions in the quarterback room,” Pratt said. “We had to learn everything from top-down, not bottom-up. [Thad Lewis]. ”
Despite the ups and downs, Michael Pratt is focused on the upcoming season. Few players should be as excited about the aggressive continuity as he does.
“I’m extremely excited about being familiar with the system this offseason. I have a few different things that are changing, but I definitely have time to study, so I have no excuses right now.”
