Chicken and beef parts spilled from a truck on Interstate 880 in Oakland during the Friday evening rush hour, causing a major traffic jam, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP said meat was splattered across all northbound lanes just before 5 p.m. Troopers said they don’t know if the driver even knew what was going on, because the truck continued on the highway and never stopped.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), several spinouts were also reported during the incident, which led to the closure of several lanes on the highway.
The California Department of Transportation was called in to help clear up the mess, which caused nine miles of traffic jams and detours on Oakland’s High Street. All lanes were reopened just after 9:30 p.m.
The incident happened not far from the Oakland Coliseum, where singer Zac Bryan performed on Friday night, affecting people trying to get to the concert as well as those heading home from work.
For Zach Bryan concert-goers, like Brian Navarro in Santa Cruz, the drive wasn’t necessarily ideal.
“I checked Google Maps to see the ETA and it’s just as bad,” he said.
As of Friday night, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said they were still searching for the truck that was transporting the meat, and asked any drivers who were on the highway at the time of the crash or have any information to contact the CHP’s Oakland office.
