Matt Smith attended the New York premiere of House of the Dragon season 2 on Monday.
Extra’s Mona Kosar Abdi spoke with Matt, who hinted that the characters are “at a bit of a crossroads.”
Matt called the new season “a deep, dark insight into the grief and division of a deeply dysfunctional, yet rather brilliant, crazy family.”
He said: “There’s a huge divide going on and I think everyone is in a state of grief. Grief has a strange effect on people and makes them do extreme things.”
“The cracks wax and wane and get worse and deeper,” Matt hinted.
Matt hinted that his character, Daemon Targaryen, is in a “pretty tough spot.”
He said: “I think he’s kind of tumbling towards the abyss and a lot of what you know about him is kind of falling apart. Essentially, he’s unraveling. It’s like he’s a piece of string tumbling in the wind. He’s kind of losing his mind, which I think is cool.”
Smith also had high praise for working with co-star Emma Darcy, who plays Rhaenyra Targaryen.
“I love them so much,” Matt gushed. “Emma is such a deep, emotional and intelligent person and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to spend so much time with them both on and off screen. Seriously, they’re a sensation. I love them.”
“House of the Dragon” Season 2 will premiere on Max on June 9th.
