Matt Damon enjoyed a family night in with his wife Luciana and their daughters at the ‘Instigators’ premiere in New York City on Wednesday.
Extra’s Mona Kosar Abdi spoke with Matt, who’s teamed up with pal Casey Affleck for the heist comedy.
There’s a lot of banter between Matt and Casey’s characters in the film and their chemistry is hard to fake.
Matt spoke passionately about his longtime friendship with Casey and her brother, Ben Affleck, and how they’ve been through many stages of life together.
He commented: “I [the friendships] And I just realize how lucky I am to have two such great friends. We’ve known each other for so long and been through so many different parts of life together. Casey graduated high school at 18 and left home with us, and we were both broke actors in LA. He was like a brother to me, and Ben and I were. Then we got married and had kids. We’ve been through so many different parts of life, successes and failures in our careers and everything in between, so it all just added up.”
Matt will co-star alongside Ben again in Joe Carnahan’s upcoming film, RIP.
The two have had the opportunity to work together on several projects since their Oscar-winning film, Good Will Hunting.
He reflected on how they’re still working together all these years later. “We dreamed about it,” Matt said. “I don’t think our dreams ever got bigger than ‘Good Will Hunting,’ so we were on borrowed time, and we have been for a while.”
When it came to The Investigators, Matt explained that Luciana really pushed him. He said, “She’s like Ben and Casey. An opinion develops over time and you have this unshakeable belief. I clearly saw the good in it. I was a little hesitant, and she was like, ‘OK, this is good, this would be a good movie,’ and she explained it to me. I was like, ‘Yeah, I want to see that movie,’ so we went for it.”
The Instigators will be released in select theaters on August 2nd and will be available on AppleTV+ on August 9th.
