Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., who is the leading contender to be Harris’ running mate in the 2024 election, posted a cryptic message on social media amid growing speculation about the vice presidential pick.
“Whether it was in the Navy or NASA, serving in the United States Senate or visiting our troops overseas, I have learned that when our country calls to serve, we should always answer,” Kelly wrote in a post on X on Sunday.
Harris met with potential running mates on Sunday, and the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee is expected to make a final decision on who she will run as in the next day or two.
In addition to Kelly, those on the list also include Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, with sources saying Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg are also on the list.

“Looks like Mark Kelly has been selected as the VP candidate,” one user wrote.
Some users couldn’t wait to see Kelly debate Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance, calling Vance an “ex-tech guy” and Kelly an astronaut.
“My head is spinning. Is Senator Mark Kelly still on the ballot or has he dropped out?,” wrote another user, sharing an animated GIF of Gene Wilder’s Willy Wonka. “Palace intrigue is so old school. Hopefully we’ll know who the VP running mate is by tomorrow at the latest.”

Still, some users were further confused when they shared screenshots of Kelly’s posts on Sunday afternoon that were later deleted.
“My background is a little different than most politicians. I spent my life in the Navy and NASA where the mission always came first. No, my mission is to serve the people of Arizona,” the post read.
