Mariah Carey is mourning the deaths of her mother Patricia and sister Alison.
On Monday, Carrie confirmed the sad news, people magazine, “I am heartbroken after losing my mother last weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister also passed away on the same day.”
Mariah did not reveal the cause of Patricia and Alison’s deaths, but added, “I am blessed to have been able to spend my mother’s final week with me before she passed away. I thank everyone for their love, support and for respecting our privacy during this difficult time.”
A few years ago, Mariah Carey opened up about her complicated relationship with her mother in her memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey.”
She writes, “Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities. It has never been black and white, but a rainbow of emotions.”
“Our relationship is a tangled rope of prickly emotions — pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration, disappointment,” Mariah said. “A complicated love connects my heart to my mother’s.”
In her book, Carrey wrote that “it was safer for me emotionally and physically to have no contact whatsoever with Alison and her brother Morgan.”
Carrie claimed that Alison had been abusive towards her when she was younger.
In her book, she claims, “When I was 12, my sister drugged me with Valium, offered me a pinky nail full of cocaine, gave me third-degree burns, and tried to sell me to a pimp.”
