Margaret Cho shared her own experience of having diarrhea on a plane following last week’s virus outbreak, which resulted in a plane being turned back due to a passenger suffering from severe diarrhea.
The actor and comedian shared her story on TikTok on Wednesday (September 6), and it has since been viewed more than 600,000 times. “Have you ever had diarrhea on a plane? I’ve had it myself,” she quickly began.
“It had gas in it,” she continued. “I kept going back and forth, going to the bathroom and sitting down again. And the smell was so foul, but it wasn’t human either, so I had to go to the bathroom and sit down again. People started wondering if something was wrong with the plane.”
The comedian explained that passengers had various theories, including that “something was on fire” and that jet fuel was leaking. They looked around and began to panic before deciding to tell the flight attendants.
Cho said she decided to wear the AirPods without speaking up. “I broke up and put in AirPods,” she said. “I just watched as people panicked and started looking around.”
Many in the comments section called such an incident their “worst nightmare.”
One commenter said, “This is my nightmare. I’m glad it ended safely.”
Some commenters wrote about their own experiences with delayed flights. “Me too. Just before takeoff. They didn’t start the plane until I got out of the bathroom. They almost kicked me off the plane. Customs inspected me,” one person admitted.
“When I was 17, I flew home from Paris and vomited so violently into my hospital bag that it burst and landed on the shoes of the person across the aisle,” said another. I wrote this while trying to sympathize with Mr. Cho.
Others explained what precautions they are taking to prevent the same thing from happening to them. “We IBS girls take a pre-emptive dose of Imodium before boarding a plane,” one commenter explained.
“For this reason, I eat very light meals on the day of my flight. I hate using the bathroom on airplanes,” another suggested.

The pilots made the right decision to turn back. The ground crew ripped out the carpet and put a new one down. Considering the circumstances, the ground crew was great. He did his job. [with] Both the crew and the pilot. ”
