Kyrie Irving, one of the most talented security guards in NBA history, celebrated his 33rd birthday on Sunday, and the world of basketball took a little time to celebrate his legacy. The warm wish was his former Dallas Mavericks teammate Luka Donsic.
Donsic, who currently plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, went to Instagram to post Irving’s short but meaningful message.
“Happy birthday Hermano!!! @kyrieirving🔥”
Despite the time it took when teammates cut short by a shocking trade with the Lakers earlier this year, the bond between the two remains strong. They shared the Dallas courtroom for parts of their three seasons and had an impressive run in the NBA Finals last year. Their on-court partnership has ended, but their friendship continues beyond basketball.
Irving’s Resilient Journey
Irving’s 2024-25 season was an unfortunate halt after suffering a torn ACL in early March. The Dallas Mavericks confirmed their injuries and expressed confidence in their ability to return stronger than ever.
“Kai, you are resilient. Exceptional, leadership, dedication is who you are. We know you’re coming back stronger than ever,” the team shared in a statement.
Before the injury, Irving had another great season, averaging 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.3 steel per game, maintaining elite shooting efficiency. Over the years he has built an embellished career, including an NBA Championship, nine All-Star appearances and an Olympic gold medal.
The mutual respect and respect and admiration of Doncic and Irving are clear, demonstrating that some of the NBA connections go far beyond the game itself.
