It was a shocking videotaped murder that captivated the nation and sparked a bizarre fascination with the alleged cold-blooded killer.
“TMZ Investigates: Luigi Mangione: The Mind of a Murderer” sheds new light on what made the charismatic young man go mad.
‘Extra’s’ Melvin Robert tells TMZ’s Harvey Levin about what they discovered.
Levin commented, “How can a man who is superficially well-endowed, handsome, and smart become an assassin?” The answer wasn’t easy. This guy, first of all, I think it’s clear that there is some kind of mental illness underlying it all. ”
Mr. Mangione, apparently obsessed with corporate greed, bought 400 copies of “Hit Reverse: New Ideas from Old Books” by Mumbai author Jash Dolani.
“That obsession ultimately proved fatal,” Harvey said.
The TMZ team also tracked down Luigi’s recent travel companions and revealed shocking new details about the months leading up to the murder. The men said Mangione even visited an “expensive” shooting range in Thailand in late March 2024.
“This was a plan he had been working on for a long time because as of June he was already using a false name and had false identification,” Levin said.
Mangione was arrested last month after being spotted at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania. He has pleaded not guilty to murder and terrorism charges.
