“I am thinking of you now, my fellow Americans,” she began her letter. “We have always been a unique union. The fabric of America, our gentle nation, is in tatters, but your courage and common sense will rise and hold us together once again.”
She offered condolences to the families of those killed and injured at Saturday’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and also described the shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, as “a monster who identified my husband with an inhuman political organization.”
In her letter, Melania Trump urged people to rise above “differences of opinion, policies and political maneuvering.”
“And when it’s time to look beyond left and right, red and blue, let’s remember that we all come from a family with a passion to fight together for a better life while we are here on this earthly realm.”
She ended her two-page letter with words of thanks to those who remember that “every politician is a man or woman with a loving family.”
