Get on the grill and enjoy some cheeseburgers and steaks this Fourth of July weekend, you might not be able to do it for much longer.
That’s because climate fanatics have declared war on livestock, which appear to be the biggest killer of the planet. This is the only logical interpretation of a recent CNN headline that reads, “World’s first carbon tax on livestock would cost farmers $100 per cow.”
I don’t usually pay much attention to Looney Tunes ideas coming from across the Atlantic, but this is the kind of madness that has crossed the ocean and made its way to these shores.
Solar companies found to have ‘squeezed billions’ from Biden administration, despite protests ‘appeasing the wealthy’
The tax of $96 per cow in Denmark would be levied “on the greenhouse gas emissions produced by cows.”
If you’re wondering why cows have suddenly become villains, you haven’t been paying attention to the radicals at the helm of the environmental movement: every time a cow burps and releases gas (methane to be exact), it warms the planet. Devil!
So now we are the first country to tax livestock. Maybe pigs and goats will be next. Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen boasts that he is “investing billions” in the transition to a carbon-free society, as if he has a shot at a Nobel Prize. In this drive to protect the planet from heat waves, cows are collateral damage.
According to CNN, the global food system is responsible for one-third of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.
PBS says the situation is worse than that: “Cows and other livestock are responsible for around 40 percent of emissions of methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Cattle release methane as a by-product when digesting their high-fiber diet, making them one of the most climate-unfriendly food sources on the planet.”
Behead him.
My guess is that within the next 18 months some member of Congress (AOC?) will propose a similar tax on Bessie here.

At the very least, we should take some solace in the fact that liberals are finally acknowledging that when you tax something, you get less. If you tax cows more, there will be fewer cows. That’s the thinking here.
So why do we tax work, savings and investment? Would we want to reduce those too?
The sad irony of this tax plan is that it is the same campaign that has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to save elephants, polar bears, pandas, tigers, dolphins, and other “endangered” species. But it seems we can do without cows. Cows are not cute or cuddly. This is no “biodiversity” story.
Where is this all leading? The species that seems to be responsible for nearly all of the carbon emissions is humans. The real villains here are us. We burn coal, wood, oil and gas to bring light, heat and cooling to our factories, hospitals and schools.

To save the planet, we may need to impose a birth tax on humans. As the old saying goes, the planet would be better off without so many humans and cows. We may also need public service announcements that mimic the theme of the Chick-fil-A ad in which the cow urges people to “eat more chicken.”
For now, do your part to clear the air this weekend: skip the steaks, burgers and sausages and fill up on a veggie burger instead.
