Journalism is in trouble. But if the industry is in recession, then left-wing media is also in recession. So do many of the people who work there. And things got even worse.
Many heads of far-left media have cut jobs or shut down completely. This isn’t just traditional liberal news organizations like the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, NBC News, ABC News, and NPR, which have recently cut jobs. Outlets like Vice, Jezebel, Texas Observer and Buzzfeed’s news section were shut down, but Jezebel has reopened.
Vox, The New Yorker, Now This, The Intercept and others are also making layoffs. New York Times media reporter Ben Mullin derided Now This’s layoff announcement as “a page out of the big book of corporate jargon.” It includes a line straight out of “The Office”: “As part of a broader effort to realign resources.”

Attrition isn’t the only issue facing Intercept. “Intercept is losing approximately $300,000 per month and is expected to have a balance of less than $1 million by November, and could be completely defunded by May 2025,” Semafor said. .Reporter Ken Klippenstein just resigned and is increasingly bashing the ‘newsroom’ [that has] Krippenstein has 500,000 followers on Elon Musk’s X and is now taking those followers to Substack.
MSNBC panel criticizes Biden from left for not packing Supreme Court: ‘historic political miscalculation’
But nowhere is the collapse of leftist media more evident than in Participant Media. The participants were the film companies that produced the Al Gore film “An Inconvenient Truth” and other popular propaganda films. After 20 years and his 21 Oscar wins, eBay billionaire Jeff Skoll has shut down his own pet project. The New York Times called Participant “Hollywood’s preeminent producer of activist entertainment.”

According to the paper, Participant is free from employees needed to complete several more propaganda films, including “BLKNWS,” which “depicts what the media omits or misrepresents in its coverage of black culture.” The company plans to lay off “most of its 100 employees.”
The participant’s About Us page describes the company as “advancing culture and industry since 2004.” What should be called a “left-wing shift in culture.”
This movie company is on the front lines attacking corporations, attacking climate change (two gore movies), fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas in another movie), guns, nuclear power, food, and just about everything on the left. He has made left-wing horror films about everything from the beginning to the end. Abnormal situation.

Mainstream media ‘worried to death’ about Biden losing to Trump
In particular, Participant began to host films that made prominent liberals heroes or celebrated their friends in traditional media. That means two movies about the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, one about former President Jimmy Carter, and one about activist and union organizer Cesar Chavez. Become.
Press photos suggest a close relationship between the company and journalists. There’s “Good Night and Good Luck,” about Edward R. Murrow vs. Senator Joe McCarthy. Or “The Post,” about the star-studded Watergate scandal. and the New York Times documentary “Page One.”
These weren’t some obscure lefty agenda movies either. These featured some of Hollywood’s biggest names in front of or behind the camera. Actors Tom Hanks, George Clooney, Donald Sutherland, Julia Roberts, and Jamie Foxx were joined by Jodie Foster, Steven Spielberg, and director Ron Howard.

The film led to social media campaigns, news articles, and more. For a time, climate change movies made Mr. Gore a strange star and helped push his global warming agenda, which, of course, did not include limiting his own carbon emissions.
The New York Times accuses Biden of ‘dodging questions’ from journalists in fiery statement
However, such things are no longer popular because the market does not support them. (Cry your tears here.) The Times says, “Broccoli-eating documentaries and dramas that explore underrepresented communities (both sweet spots for participants) are harder sells than ever. ) explained.
It all went away like the wind blowing tear gas through an Occupy Wall Street encampment. (Another of his participants’ documentaries was “99%: Occupy Wall Street Collaborative Film.”)
In other words, there are limits to the left’s ability to shape the narrative of our society. Of course, movies and TV shows will also be featured. But what Participant brought to the table was top talent.

Consider the major issues of the day: immigration, Biden’s dire economy, transgenderism, and more. We don’t need any more flashy propaganda films about them. But that’s not all.
There are only six months left until the presidential election. The futures of both the president and Congress are in the balance. President Biden is the weakest incumbent America has ever seen, and stronger ones are still being defeated. Inflation, which we were told would disappear, has become even stronger. Campus protests and anti-Semitism dominate the news, alienating both the right and the left. And all of the White House’s foreign policy initiatives have been huge failures.

And then there’s former President Trump, who is constantly assaulted in court. If things weren’t so bad for Biden, Trump’s bad court stories would dominate the news cycle.

However, the media Biden needs is not as strong as it was in the last election. Not legacy media, certainly not left-wing media. And social media has decimated the entire news industry. Facebook algorithm is cutting back on its news coverage and trying to distance itself from America’s political struggles to some extent.
If this continues, Mr. Biden could become a victim of the very free market system that his supporters despise.
