Italian exotic automaker Lamborghini made headlines at this year’s Monterey Car Week by debuting its first-ever EV years ahead of schedule.
The Lamborghini Lanzador concept is what the company calls a ‘high ground clearance GT’ and features a 2+2 seating configuration, but with only two doors. The Lanzador’s footprint is similar to his SUV Urus, but more like a coupe or sedan in presence and footprint.Lanzador, part of Lamborghini Dilegione Col Tauri With the electrification strategy slated for 2028, it came as a surprise to many that Lamborghini would debut the model long before its actual launch.
“When you’re in a super sports car company like Lamborghini, you have to see what’s missing in the line-up,” Lamborghini CEO Stefan Winkelmann said at the Quail event during Monterey Car Week. said in an interview with Yahoo Finance. “So with two supersport cars and one supersport SUV, it’s important to keep what we’ve been doing for decades: GT cars. That’s what’s missing. And this. is a perfect match for Lamborghini’s DNA.”
But when most people think of a high ground car with two rows of seats, they usually think of a four-door car. Not because Lamborghini wants to keep the sporty vibe in this case. Winkleman says the combination of high ground clearance and a sporty two-door look is “the best of the two worlds” for the brand in terms of design.
Lamborghini says that when it comes to powertrain, the Lanzador features an electric motor on each axle, resulting in an all-electric drive setup that can deliver peak power of over 1 megawatt (equivalent to over 1,000 horsepower) under certain conditions. It is possible. The all-wheel drive system also features active e-torque vectoring on the rear axle, allowing power to be concentrated from left to right on the rear axle, providing more “dynamic cornering behaviour,” the company said. Says.
As mentioned above, this car is quite different from other Lamborghinis when it comes to appearance, but its ties to the newly reintroduced Countach and the current Urus SUV are clear. Lamborghini’s head of design Micha Borkert said the Lanzador was inspired by “spaceships,” with the cabin’s massive forward look and sharp lines and wrinkles making it look like an alien python from another dimension. Appearance is said to have given.
Inside, it features a Lamborghini jet fighter-like cockpit design, with hard angles and a variety of textures and materials. Lamborghini says the interior will use sustainably sourced leather, 100% merino wool, which is essentially 100% renewable, recycled carbon and recycled plastic.
It’s still a concept and will likely be very similar to the production model that will hit the market in a few years, so Lamborghini hasn’t revealed pricing or an exact launch date, but the production model’s debut is slated for 2028. It is planned for 2020, the company said.
