A ransomware group has claimed to have stolen large amounts of data from the City of Los Angeles Department of Housing and threatened to release the material next week unless a ransom is paid.

A message claiming that “hacla.org” was targeted appeared on a so-called “dark web” page late last week, saying the group copied 15 terabytes of data from the Housing Authority.
The message said that the data would be released on January 12th if the ransom was not paid.
The city’s housing department administers public housing developments and other rental assistance programs and collects personal and financial information from thousands of people who receive or apply for housing assistance.
