Cousins missed just one NFL start during his career due to health reasons, but was replaced by rookie quarterback Jalen Hall. Veteran backup Nick Mullens is on injured reserve with a back injury.
The play occurred with 9:50 left in the game with the Vikings holding a 24-10 lead. When Cousins rose to the pocket on a third-down dropback, his right leg broke and he was sacked. Cousins managed to get to his feet, but jumped off the field with his right leg in the air.
By that point, Cousins had completed 23 of 31 passes for 274 yards and two touchdowns.
Cousins, 35, is scheduled to become a free agent after the season. He and the Vikings agreed to negotiate a contract extension last spring, and this season became a referendum on his tenure with the Vikings. Entering Week 8, he ranked second in the NFL in passing yards and first in touchdown passes.
