Two years after losing her voice, Father of the Bride star Kimberly Williams-Paisley is opening up about her terrifying ordeal.
In an interview with people In the magazine, Williams-Paisley recalled how she could barely speak for nearly two years after losing her voice.
“I felt trapped in my own body,” Kimberly admitted, as she could only whisper.
Ms Williams-Paisley suffered from partial vocal cord paralysis, which left her feeling “invisible”.
Because of this condition, Williams-Paisley had to take on several acting jobs.
Despite having the support of her husband Brad Paisley and their children, she struggled with being “very embarrassed”.
Kimberly ultimately underwent a surgery called medialization laryngoplasty to correct the problem.
She said: Now, no matter what my physical voice is, my bottom voice is stronger. I feel more confident now. I know myself very well. ”
Williams-Paisley has gained a newfound appreciation for her voice.
She explained: I don’t want to leave anything unsaid. I want to have the courage to use my voice because I never want to take it for granted. ”
In late 2022, when Kimberly lost her voice, she appeared on stage at the annual fundraiser “Dance Party to End ALZ.”
“I put the microphone over my mouth and nothing came out. It was scary.”
She initially thought she needed to “rest her voice,” but the situation did not improve after several weeks.
“I started blaming myself, saying, ‘I’m not breathing properly, I’m not relying on my vocal training.’ I was blaming myself,” Williams-Paisley said. “There were days when I didn’t want to do anything. Days when I felt extra tired. I kept having anxious thoughts in the middle of the night. I can’t say I suffered from depression, but I was sad.”
