On Friday, Justin Timberlake’s New York state driver’s license was suspended following his DUI arrest in June.
Judge Carl Eileis suspended Timberlake’s driver’s license for refusing to take a breathalyzer test after being pulled over in Sag Harbor.
It is unclear how long Timberlake will be banned from driving in New York state for, but if he refuses a Breathalyzer test in the state it could be up to a year.
Justin pleaded not guilty for a second time to charges related to the drunk driving incident.
Timberlake attended the court hearing remotely as he is in Belgium on his “Everything I Thought It Was” world tour.
After the hearing, Justin’s attorney, Ed Burke, told reporters, “This is standard procedure in any DUI case. In New York state, your driver’s license is suspended while the case is pending and lifted when the case is concluded. Other states have similar regulations.”
During a court hearing last week, Burke argued in Sag Harbor court that the criminal complaint filed by police who arrested the singer contained procedural “flaws” and that the case should be dismissed.
Speaking to reporters outside, Burke claimed police had made a mistake because Justin was “not intoxicated.”
According to the New York Daily News, the lawyer Said“The most important thing we have to say today is that Justin should never have been arrested for DUI,” he said, claiming authorities made “a number of very serious errors.”
He continued, “Police, like all of us, make mistakes and that’s certainly what happened here.”
This week, Burke was reprimanded for his comments by Eileis, who called Burke’s comments “irresponsible” and “sounded like an attempt to harm the case.”
Eileis threatened to issue a gag order against Burke if he continued to criticise the court system.
The next hearing is scheduled for August 9th, when the defense and prosecutors will hold talks.
Timberlake’s tentative appearance in court in Sag Harbor is set for September 13th.
