Denver’s FBI has issued a warning to smartphone users to avoid using public charging stations whenever possible. This is because cybercriminals use a method called juice-jacking to hijack public chargers and infect devices with malware, giving hackers access to your phone, tablet, or computer.
Here’s what we know.
What is Juicejacking?
Juicejacking is a method of compromising devices such as smartphones and tablets that use the same cable (usually a USB cable) for charging and data transfer. Hackers infect charging stations that are open to the public. So when a person connects her phone to the charging station via her USB cable, a hacker can infect that USB cable while it is connected to the device and steal all the data on the device.
