Joseph Quinn, Cosmo Jarvis and Kit Connor cook in the film “War” based on the true experiences of screenwriter Ray Mendoza as a seal of the former Navy during the Iraq War.
“Extra” Adam Weistler spoke with everyone about the film, similar to Marvel’s major casting announcements for “Avengers: The End.”
Joseph, who plays Johnny Storm/Human Torch in “Fantastic Four,” is part of “Avengers: Doomsday,” teased, “I think I’ll be tighter in a suit this time.”
He added, “We’re really going to see how far we can go with it.”
Cosmo, who is also in “Shōgun,” can’t say much about the upcoming season, saying, “I know they’re working on it. They’re working very hard.”
Jarvis could say more about “war,” and talked about what Ray and his co-writer and co-director Alex Garland each brought to the project.
He said, “Ray came out of that from the truth that these men and Alex occupations provide concrete and direct credibility.
Kit talks about how the cast joined together during filming, and Joseph recalls the three-week boot camp they did.
Connor said, “We pretty much expected us to live in each other’s spaces. Basically, you know. There was no room for a recluse. That’s because we had to act as a unit and as a team.”
He said, “If it was a group of other people, it would be even more difficult, but it was such a great group of people, so I personally think I grew up to be truly respected, appreciated and loved very quickly. It became one of the best parts of the job: nurturing, supporting environment.”
Joseph described the three-week boot camp they had experienced as calling it “luxury.”
He said, “We learned a lot within that time and used that time to rehearse the material we saw in the film. We rehearsed it like a play. And we trained some weapons, then we did some kind of manipulation training.
He added, “Psychologically, it was just essential to create this care culture in a battle template that informed everything, you know.”
Quinn said, “You know, you’ll have a moment when it was, you know, you feel a little – it’s a complicated thing. But you never really felt alone because you had all these friends you built these relationships, it was very rare in this game and it was a beautiful lesson and a beautiful addition.
“War” will be released on April 11th.
