John Stamos opens up about his past heartbreaks in his new memoir, If You Could Have Told Me.
In the book, he recalls that in the 1980s, one of his ex-girlfriends, We Got It Made star Terry Copley, had an affair with fellow actor Tony Danza. However, Copley insists that her relationship with John ended once she moved on with Tony.
share Story Stamos told People magazine that finding Terry in bed with Tony was “physically painful” and “the worst of all.”
“I can’t explain it, but I wish I had gotten punched in the nose one more time or something because the pain was so unbearable,” the “Full House” actor said. “Looking back, I think she probably wasn’t the right woman for me. So I looked at him and realized it was him, and it was hard. I mean, it was terrible.”
Stamos recalls finding Terry and Tony in bed together at the Copley guesthouse. He didn’t notice Danza at the time, but he did notice that the man had “crack abs.”
John said he stumbled out of the room, shocked and “breathless.”
“At first I thought, ‘I’m going to kick him…’ but I didn’t know it was going to happen.” [Danza] still. You can see his abs. I’m like, “Maybe not.” Fuck it. And I ran,” he said. “But I remember running down the driveway in tears because I didn’t want anyone to see.”
Terry’s memory was completely different! She told People magazine, “I thought, ‘What was John doing there?'” Because we broke up. He just looked at me, shook his head and walked away. ”

In his book, Stamos describes how he knew the other man was Danza, saying he saw a poster of Copley taped to the front seat of a car parked outside. explained. It was signed “My Dear Tony.”
In the excerpt Posted Stamos also wrote in his memoir for Entertainment Weekly: I mouthed the words of his most famous lyric and recognized his rival’s name. “Hold me closer, Tony Danza…”
“It took me a long time to get over that,” John told People magazine, adding that Copley was “just a nice guy.”
“I mean, it wasn’t right to cheat on me, but I was too immature. I wasn’t the man,” he said. “I haven’t been a man in a long time, and I think she was…I don’t know. I’m broken.”
Stamos also believes everything was “evened out” in the end.
Tony’s show “Who’s the Boss” was a precursor to “Full House,” John told People magazine. And I was like, “Oh, wait a minute. That evened out. I honestly think if we hadn’t been following his show in the summer, we would have ended up with that show, ‘Full House.’”
