More than a week after Samantha Cope filed for divorce, Joey Lawrence has broken his silence about their separation.
Lawrence denied rumors that she cheated on Cope with her “Socked in for Christmas” co-star Melina Alves. Joey revealed that he met Melina “in the midst of a seriously troubled marriage.”
“I clung to hope that a relationship I knew in my heart was beyond repair. My short-lived marriage was fraught with difficulties from the start. Our differences became insurmountable,” Lawrence added.
According to Joey, their relationship began to fall apart due to Samantha’s relationship with his daughters.
He wrote, “As a father, my three daughters are my world. They are and always will be my number one priority. The breakdown of my marriage was related to the realization that my two oldest daughters would never accept my wife as a part of their family. I cannot and will not compromise the love and care my daughters deserve. This realization played a major role in the breakdown of my relationship.”
On Wednesday, Melina Instagram Commenting on the infidelity allegations, she posted on Instagram: “Firstly, I want to clarify that there was no sexual relationship between Joey and I while filming Socked in for Christmas. Our relationship was a meaningful friendship that developed naturally due to the many similarities in our personal situations.”
Melina’s ex-husband Edward Ryder recently accused her of cheating with Joey. She denied the allegations, saying, “My ex-husband and I have been estranged since January 2023 and have been living in separate rooms since then.”
She continued, “Our marriage had not been going well for a long time, so separating was a necessary step for both of us.”
Samantha responded to Joey’s Instagram post about his marriage. people “As a mother who cares for her daughter more than anything, I am deeply troubled by these false accusations. I am certain the truth is known to me, Joey and God,” she said in an interview with the magazine.
“I have decided to focus on healing, caring for my daughter and moving on from the loss of my marriage and family,” Samantha added.

Cope, 37, married Lawrence, 48, two years ago.
In court documents, Cope said the couple separated on June 7.

A source told the outlet that the pair even kissed once during a night out together.
