Yaakov Israel Paley, 6, and Alter Shlomo Lederman, 20, died on Friday at the Ramot Crossroads, which Israel considers a neighborhood north of Jerusalem.
The boy’s brother, 8-year-old Asher Menahem Paley, who was “severely injured” during the attack, died in hospital on Saturday, according to a hospital statement.
He was pronounced dead after “many teams in the trauma unit, ER, pediatric intensive care, pediatric surgery, and neurosurgery fought for his life for hours,” according to a statement.
Hadassah Medical Center said Asher and Yaakov’s 42-year-old father was injured in the attack and remains in hospital in a “moderate” condition. His 10-year-old son was released “after being treated in the emergency room by a medical team.”
Two other people were injured in the incident.
Police said the suspect “neutralized” at the scene was identified as 31-year-old Hussein Qaraqe from East Jerusalem.
A local journalist in the neighborhood reported that Israeli police arrested Karake’s wife, father and brother and shared a video where they said they were arrested.
Palestinians and many international observers consider settlements to occupied territories because they originated on land that Israel occupied from Jordan in 1967 and then annexed.
Suspect released from hospital shortly before attack
Suspect Karake had been released from a Tel Aviv hospital the night before the incident, his uncle told CNN.
Adnan Qaraqe said he had been hospitalized for a month due to a back injury.
“He was in a car accident some time ago that seriously injured his back, requiring more than five surgeries on his spine. was there.”
Karake said he didn’t know if the hospital his nephew was in was a psychiatric hospital or if Hussein was in the hospital with back pain. He said there would be clear records at his nephew’s home, but the home was sealed by Israeli authorities.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday ordered the house to be sealed and demolished. A resident of Issawiya told his CNN that Qaraqe did not own the home, but rented it.
Israeli State Security Minister Itamar Ben Guvir also ordered police to search vehicles in the vicinity following the crash.
“I instructed the police to set up barricades around Isawiyah, stop one by one, and briefly check all vehicles. In any case, I have instructed the police to put up barricades, and they are putting up barricades around Isawiya,” he said.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken responded to the incident in a strongly worded statement Friday, saying: Killed. “
“Deliberately targeting innocent civilians is distasteful and unconscionable. The United States expresses its deepest condolences to those injured and stands firm with them in the face of this attack.” the statement said.
