A new Netflix documentary promises to pull back the curtain on TV’s biggest sideshow show, the Jerry Springer Show, with the late Jerry Springer as its mastermind.
“Jerry Springer: Fight, Camera, Action” goes inside the chaos and controversy. The two-part series features never-before-heard stories from producer Toby Yoshimura and others who worked behind the scenes.
Toby said on ‘Extra’: “People always wonder how we did it and what was going on at the time because it’s all stuff you wouldn’t see on stage,” he teased.
One of the big moments in television history was when “The Jerry Springer Show” surpassed “Oprah” in the ratings. Toby said, “Oprah and Jerry…two different shows. Jerry said that too. She’s the queen. We’re on completely different wavelengths.”
The show’s inner workings were first revealed in 1998’s “Extra.” A group of guests claimed that their show was fabricated and that the story was scripted.
“I can’t talk about those stories,” Tobey pointed out, adding, “They weren’t my show. I brought legitimate stories to it.”
