Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd are cooking in their new comedy horror film, Death of a Unicorn.
“Extra” spoke with Jenna and Paul on SXSW. So they opened about their somewhat troubling first meeting in the airport lounge before filming.
Jenna said, “I was writing in my diary so we already knew we were doing the film together. I was doing ‘Beetle Juice’, you were doing ‘Ghostbusters’ and we were in London. ”
Paul said, “I saw you sitting there and I thought, ‘Oh, my god, I think we’re going to work together on this thing soon,” and I wasn’t sure if it was you. Then I felt the stems a little. ”
Jenna added. “It felt like you were standing for a while because sometimes when I write, if you don’t know what to write and you just get to the end of the page anyway, I write exactly what’s going on in that moment.
Paul said, “There were moments like, “I think that’s Jenna.” I haven’t seen her and you’re in that nasty space. There, I’m going to look at the departure committee and make it.
Jenna confessed. “I think I was a bit nervous because it caught me off guard and I was in a strange place in life, so it was scary to have a bit of a jump.”
She raves Paul, “I don’t just hear incredible things, it feels like we’ve worked with a lot of the same people – but he’s so sweet, you’re relaxing right away.
Paul praised Jenna, calling her “incredible” and added the film.
In “The Death of a Unicorn,” Paul and Jenna play father and daughter, accidentally slap and kill a unicorn in their car.
They talked about how difficult it is to maintain a straight face amid all the chaos that unfolds in the film, especially for Jenna, who had to play her character more straightforward and sincerely.
Jenna is a “always broken” character, “I was doing the worst job because I didn’t even get into the action. I had to stop the action and see them in half the tears. It was hell.”
Jenna also teases season 2 of “Wednesday” and says that she’s not only kicking a few butts on Wednesday, but “I get a bit kick on Wednesday too.”
She continued. “What really impressed me about this season is really seeing Wednesday in places where she appears to be able to win.
Jenna added, “Enid Wolf’s out. Tyler is back. There should be a mental ward. That would be good.”
“The Death of a Unicorn” will be released on March 28th.
