Bucks general manager Jason Richt didn’t forget that many expected the Bucks to be bad last year. The over/under for total wins for the season was 6.5 wins for the Bucs, and Tampa Bay had even more wins competing for the No. 1 overall pick.
The Bucs won the district championship and advanced to the district round of the postseason. Although they lost to the Lions, the game was tied in the fourth quarter and the Bucks won overall. It far exceeded my expectations.
That’s what made it all so sweet when Jason Richt was able to meet one of Tampa Bay’s preseason picks in person at the NFL Scouting Combine.
While greeting Sports Illustrated writer Connor Orr, Richt hilariously overrode Orr’s chops for predicting the Bucks would win two games last season. Here’s how the conversation went:
“Do you guys have a history?” someone said off camera.
“No, no, we just won a lot more games last year than he expected,” Jason Richt said. “You welcomed us together. [wins]. It’s displayed in my office. ”
“Wait until you tell your boss,” Orr replied. “He’ll actually like it.”
Richt: “I thought you said you would win 8 times this year, but does that mean you will win…(I have to multiply it…)”
Orr: “I had two of you and 11 of the Patriots, so the rubric is a little off. We need to readjust that.”
Licht: “I’m glad we finally met!”
The Bucks posted the funny exchange on social media.
Connor Orr was a good sport overall. Everyone who makes predictions sometimes comes off wrong, but the way Jason Licht handled it was hilarious and had me laughing out loud.
Jason Licht talks about how Bucks’ season is going
Earlier this week at the NFL Scouting Combine, Jason Richt… He thought the Bucks’ season would unfold. Of course, their goal was to reach and win the Super Bowl. But there are aspects of what they accomplished last season that the general manager can be proud of.
“Only one team will be happy at the end and win everything,” Richt said. “So you always play better than maybe people expected, which is great, but you’re never satisfied until you win it all.
“So I was happy, I was proud of the young team, I was proud of the coaching staff, I was proud of the whole organization for getting the team closer to getting closer to the championship game. From that standpoint, I was very happy. .”
