“Dawson’s Creek” star James Van Der Beek, 47, has announced that he is battling cancer.
speak exclusively people The actor told the magazine: “I have colorectal cancer. I deal with this diagnosis personally and with the support of my wonderful family, I am working towards a solution.”
Trying to reassure fans, he added: “There’s reason for optimism and I’m feeling good.”
Van der Beek told the magazine that he has prioritized his wife, Kimberly, and their six children during his treatment, but he has also made time to continue working.
James also accepted Instagram “About 2 billion people around the world get this diagnosis every year, and I’m one of them. I don’t have a strategy for how to announce these things, but I talked about it in People magazine. I had planned to talk about it in detail sometime soon… to raise awareness and tell my story, but when I was informed early this morning that the news would be published in a tabloid, my plans had to change. ”
He continued, “I have personally dealt with this issue for some time now and have been more focused than ever on seeking treatment and improving my overall health. This is quite the beginning and I’ll tell you more when I’m ready. ”
James also said, “I apologize to all the people in my life that I thought I would tell. Nothing about this process is happening in the timeline I would have liked…but we are We will move forward together and take each surprise as a signpost to point us in the next direction.” Please know that my family and I are deeply grateful for all of your love and support, a greater destiny that we would not have discovered without God’s intervention. ”
Balancing work and health, Van Der Beek will be stripping for charity on next month’s The Real Full Monty. Named after the popular 1997 film that led to the similar success of the 2000 musical, this two-hour special raises funds for prostate, testicular, and colorectal cancer testing and research. Male celebrities appear who take off their clothes for the purpose.
The program will be broadcast for the first time on December 9th.
