A Jamaican police officer has been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and raping a woman who stopped her car.
It happened at the end of last month. A statement from the Jamaican Police Department said the officer demanded money in exchange for not prosecuting the woman for an unidentified traffic violation. Police then took the woman to an ATM, after which she allegedly raped her.
Jamaica declares state of emergency in response to soaring crime involving tourist haven Montego Bay
Police said they launched an investigation after the woman called officers. The statement did not specify whether the woman was Jamaican or a tourist.
