for most of us, apple iphone is one of the best digital cameras we own. Every year, Apple constantly improves his iPhone’s camera capabilities through both hardware and software. This year iPhone 14 Pro With a 48MP main camera, we want to spotlight one of the underrated software features you may not be aware of.
photo style, iPhone13 lineup and a great addition to the iPhone photographer’s arsenal of tools. It’s probably one of the underrated camera features, but there are plenty of reasons to use it.
What is photography style?
Photo Styles are not filters. It’s basically preset levels of tone and warmth for the camera app, allowing you to customize the style of your photos. iphone camera Capture in real time. The default photo style is always set to Standard and gives an overall balanced look. However, there are four other his options to choose from: Rich Contrast, Vivid, Warm, and Cool.
You can change the default to a different preset in the Settings app to always start with that option, or switch between them all while shooting in the Camera app. There are levels, but you can customize them further to your liking if you want. That way, you can create your own “style” every time you take a photo.
Note, however, that Photo Styles are not filters, as you cannot apply them after taking a picture. It is also considered destructive because it cannot change the photo style of captured images. If you want to change to a different style, you have to apply that style in real time and retake the photo.
Why Photographic Styles is better

While the standard settings are generally fine for everyday photography, I’ve noticed that sometimes I’m particularly dissatisfied with the way iOS handles color processing after capture. The standard option has a “balanced” look, so some elements of the image feel washed out more than they should. Photographic Styles can help alleviate that problem.
Of the presets available, I think my favorite is Rich Contrast. This provides darker shadows and richer colors for strong contrast in photos. However, if you want to get brighter, more vibrant colors but still want to maintain a balanced look, Vibrant is also a good choice. Warm adds a golden undertone while Cool adds a blue undertone. We stuck with the default settings for each, but again you can personalize each preset to make your style stronger or more subtle.
If you are worried about the effect being too strong, don’t worry! I tested Photographic Styles on my iPhone 14 Pro at Disneyland over the weekend, and to be honest, the default settings are pretty finicky. You will only notice the difference when comparing all 5 presets. Again, you can switch between different photo styles at any time while using the camera app.
The shot above was taken while waiting in line for “It’s a Small World Holiday.” It’s easy to see the difference between different photo styles during the day. In the example above, the standard and vivid are very similar, and the vivid is a bit brighter and more vibrant. Rich contrast adds more shadows and darker colors to give everything a little more depth and realism. Warm and Cool styles add undertones to bring the image closer to one end of the spectrum, each evoking different emotions. Personally, I prefer warm photos to cool photos.
At night, depending on the lighting conditions, it may be difficult to see the difference in photo style. These shots were taken after dark at Disney California Adventure’s Cars Land, known for its bright neon lights. There isn’t much of a difference between Standard and Rich Contrast, but Rich Contrast is slightly better than Standard because rocks look deeper and richer in color and neon lights don’t seem blown out. Vibrant looks a little too artificial and washed out (in the light) in this scenario.
At first, I was skeptical about using Photographic Styles because I didn’t like the destructive aspects of Photographic Styles. The fact is that if you change your mind, you can’t remove or change the style. But after giving it another chance, I think Photographic Styles are a great way to add a touch of glamor to your photos without going too extreme (unless you want it). It’s a little hidden, but you can easily switch styles on the fly in the camera app, so if you haven’t used Photo Styles yet, I recommend giving it a try.
How to set the photo style
If you’re interested in Photographic Styles and want to try it yourself, there are two options.
Set default photo style
By default, the Normal style is turned on for all users. However, you can change it to one of our other presets so that it is always available every time you launch the Camera app.
- open setting Install the app on your iPhone (must be iPhone 13 or newer).
- scroll down and select camera.
- select photo style.
- Swipe between the different styles available. Standard (default), rich contrast, lively, warmWhen How nice.
- select Use “style” to what you want.
Now every time you launch the camera app, it will launch with the selected app. However, changing the style in the next step will overwrite your selection.
Set photo style from camera app
You can also switch between all preset styles directly in the camera app. Method is as follows.
-
- open camera Install the app on your iPhone (must be iPhone 13 or newer).
- Swipe up from the bottom of the viewfinder (the space above the shutter button). optionally, arrow Click at the top of the screen to reveal additional controls.
- choose photo style button. It looks like three overlapping squares.
- Swipe between different styles: standard, rich contrast, lively, warmWhen How nice.
- If you want to adjust Condition Also warmth You can do it with sliders for each style
Again, you can switch between them from the Camera app, but it even overrides the original selection from the Settings app.
Subtle ways to improve your photos without the hassle

Photographic Styles aren’t new this year. Introduced in iPhone 13 series and iOS 15. However, it is less talked about and the functionality itself is hidden in both the Settings app and the camera. However, it can subtly improve the overall color and beauty of your photo without much post-editing (but you can still do it!).
Yes, it’s a bit annoying that Photographic Styles are destructive in that you can’t change them later, but it’s easy to switch between using multiple styles in one scene. You can also adjust the tone and warmth of each setting, allowing you to personalize your photos.
