THORNTON, Colorado (KDVR) — The 32-year-old single mother of two from Thornton was diagnosed with breast cancer in February of this year.
“I felt what looked like a small marble in my left breast and had a mammogram, which turned out to be breast cancer,” said Kelsey Kaminky. She said, “Then we found out she was stage 1-B.”
Kaminky said she was hospitalized just three weeks later to have a double mastectomy to prevent the cancer from spreading. However, she said her most recent scan found another spot on her liver and one under her left armpit.
“I’m scared. It’s scary. It was so unexpected. I’m so young and I have so much to live for,” Kaminky said.
A few days before Mother’s Day, Kaminky underwent her first six hours of chemotherapy.
“I’m feeling terrible today. I’m not feeling well at all. Basically, I’m just doing my best for my kids right now,” Kaminky said.
Kaminky said her two young sons, Owen, 6, and Keisen, 3, are what keep her going.
“They will slowly watch me get worse. Answering their questions is the hardest thing because you want to tell him what’s going on. But sharing There’s a difference between sharing and over-sharing,” Kaminky said.
She said she will have a few more rounds of chemotherapy, but is also considering other life-saving treatments besides chemotherapy, which are experimental and uncovered.
“Besides the horrific side effects, my young sons are seeing it, how terrifying it is,” Kaminky said.

“Mothers of the world, Happy Mother’s Day. Hold your baby tight and put your health first,” Kaminky said.
Kaminky also urged other young women to go and get tested if they felt something was wrong with their bodies.
