Israel Adesanya has broken his silence about his loss to Sean Strickland at UFC 293. Adesanya posted an interview on his YouTube channel reflecting on his thoughts on his first shocking title loss since his fight.
Adesanya said the fight was like a “bad dream.” He explained that although he did not feel fear, he felt like he could not land an effective attack, and likened it to having “noodle-shaped arms”. He attributed Strickland’s pressure and unique guard to his inability to find a rhythm.
He also said that changing his opponent from Doricus du Plessis to Strickland may have affected his strength. Adesanya admitted that “he didn’t have that venom” against Strickland, but he still felt sharp in his back before the fight.
As for his future, Adesanya has expressed his goal of becoming a three-time UFC middleweight champion and said the belt is just a nice accessory. He doesn’t care who holds the belt the next time he wins the title.
