We know how big a headache it can be to have a very slow WiFi connection at home.
Slow WiFi speeds can be caused by a number of factors, including your internet service provider, router location, and router health.
So let’s take a closer look at everything you need to know about how to best use and optimize your router.

Where should I place my router?
You might think it doesn’t matter where you put your router in your home, but location is everything. The router should be installed in an open area where the internet connection can easily spread throughout the house. As such, placing it in a cramped area like a bedroom closet may not be the best idea.

The router central area of your home, preferably at least 5 to 7 feet off the ground. Routers emit radio waves that can be jammed by objects that get in their way. If your router is on the floor, you may want to consider repositioning it for better signal strength.
The center of your home might be your kitchen, but it’s also not a good place for your router, as there are all the other appliances that can emit interfering signals. Consider placing it in your living room or TV room instead.
Always do this first before downloading software updates to your phone
Certain materials such as metal, sheetrock, brick, and plywood can also interfere with signal transmission, so it’s a good idea to place your router in as much space as possible.
Another good idea is that you do mount the routerThis will prevent all furniture and other objects around your home from interfering with your signal.

How do I know if I need to buy a new router?
The older your WiFi router, the slower the connection throughout your home. Even if you’re used to this slow connection, you don’t want to wait until your router is completely dead before replacing it.
Speed not worth the price: If you’ve upgraded to a better, more expensive internet package and your router just can’t keep up with the updates, perhaps it’s time to get something that gives you what you’re paying for.
No more updates: If your router is too old and hasn’t received a firmware update, that’s a good sign that it’s time for a new router. This makes the device more susceptible to potential security threats. It also prevents your device from using the latest and most advanced Wi-Fi encryption.
WIFI, how to speed up internet connection
Your router is hot and noisy: In this case, any device that produces heat, whether it’s a phone, computer, or router, is probably not working well. Most routers are silent all the time, so a lot of noise from your device is also a sign that your device is struggling to keep it working properly.
Too many devices: Most of us today have multiple devices such as smartphones, laptops, tablets and smart TVs. The more devices and people in your home, the more work your router has to do. Older routers can be overwhelmed with extra work.
Poor WiFi coverage: Older routers may only cover a small area of your home, but you need a router that can cover your entire indoor space.
Released over 5 years ago: If your router was released by the manufacturer more than 5 years ago, there may have been newer and better models available for purchase since then. We recommend that you purchase one that has been released within the last three years from the manufacturer.
