Iowa City, Iowa (KCRG) – Five Iowa City West High Schools came together on Saturday to do something akin to academics. However, because it involved 3D glasses and a virtual reality headset, it wasn’t the sort of task you’d see in a regular classroom.
students were in Iowa EdTech CollaborativeWe test learning products in our “classroom of the future” and provide feedback to the companies that designed them.
This Saturday, students focused on science, anatomy and carpentry 3D and virtual programs.
“Our biggest goal is to see what we can do better about it,” says Ava, a senior student at Iowa City West who hosted Saturday’s event, Take It Or Break It! Mr Graf said.
President Tom Nicknish VivEd Learningsaid the process of getting students to try out the software was “very helpful.”
“This allows us to get feedback from end-users rather than what we have access to. It’s like being away from the customer,” says Nicknish.
Students help companies by sharing qualitative data about their products, but students also benefit by helping design and shape tools that may one day be in schools. , added that another advantage is the experience of hosting the event itself.
“I want to get into business, so I’m thinking about the marketing side as well as the entrepreneurial side,” Graf said. It really prepared me for it.”
The Iowa EdTech Collaborative is an economic group building businesses in Iowa and looking to education as a market. Associated with the Iowa City Regional Development Group.
“We are in the business of helping identify the best of the latest innovations and bring them to students and teachers who crave engaging and effective learning technology.” Iowa Director Mark Butland Edtech said.
The students were there to critique, but their observations came from an enthusiastic place.
“It’s a very engaging, very cool way to learn,” says Graf.
