DANVILLE, IL (WCIA) — Winter storms have been tough on many people across the country. People in central Illinois lost their internet as pipes burst, people were trapped in their homes, and videos of cars skidding went viral on the internet.
“It means there is a box hours away that has been damaged by a winter storm,” said Renae Henry.
Losing the Internet may not seem like a big deal, but for Barb Bobby McHone it was.
“That’s when I realized my husband had died, but I called my kids and they came and picked me up,” McHorn said.
She uses her landline phone and iPad to keep in touch with her family. When the internet stopped working, she thought she had no way of contacting anyone.
“The first thing I noticed was that I didn’t have a TV, so I decided to use my iPad, but I didn’t get the coloring pages because they weren’t downloaded,” says McHone.
Thankfully her cell phone was working so she called the kids and hospice care to tell them what had happened.
“I was with my kids, so I was distracted,” McHorn said.
McHone’s neighbor and friend, Renae Henry, also had no internet and tried to help.
“I called AT&T and they said it was just a service outage and they didn’t have any information at the time,” says Henry.
Without the internet, Henry wasn’t sure if he could travel safely.
“We didn’t know how bad the weather was going to be and we also wanted to visit our son in Springfield for Christmas,” Henry said.
Henry’s main concern was his friend McHorn. During this time, the two stick together. Both say they feel this inconvenience separates them from everything,
I just want the connection back.
