Inside Out 2 Although it only just hit theaters, Amy Poehler already has plans for a third film.
While working with her co-stars to dispel fan theories about the film, Poehler came up with new story suggestions that allowed her to express a range of emotions for the first time.
“There’s a place away from the headquarters where more complicated emotions hang out,” Poehler imagines, “like a lounge where they’re waiting to go. It’s like an emotional batting cage, and they’re just warming up.”
Over the years, animators have toyed around with many ideas for what emotions to pack into Riley’s brain (and, sadly, have failed twice so far to figure out how to include joy at the misfortune of others), but Poehler’s idea allows fans to see a broader range of human emotions, including some of the more obscure ones that might not initially spring to mind.
But before a third film was even planned, Pixar had already Inside Out A television series for Disney+ scheduled to debut next spring.
“We’re done,” Pixar’s chief creative officer Pete Docter said recently. Entertainment Weekly“It’s due to come out next spring. I’m not sure if we have a specific release date in mind, but remember in the first movie, we go to Dream Productions to see how Riley’s dreams are made? It half explains why dreams are so weird. We’ve been exploring the power of dreams and how they affect our real lives. So, it’s pretty cool.”
Maybe the dream contains an opening for you to feel some complicated emotions, so you can kill two birds with one stone.
In the meantime, catch up on the emotions you already know and love in the sequel: We meet new emotions in the sequel: Joy (Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Tony Hale, who takes over from Bill Hader), and Disgust (Liza Lapira, who takes over from Mindy Kaling). We also meet new emotions in the sequel: Jealousy (Ayo Edebiri), Ennui (Adele Exarchopoulos), Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser), and the new boss in town: Anxiety (Maya Hawke).
See how they get along in Riley’s head Inside Out 2now in theaters.
