1968- Joined the Islamic Dawa Party. Al Dawa (formally known as Hizb al-Dawa al-Islamiyya or The Islamic Call Party) is a Shiite Islamist political party with close ties to Iran’s clerical regime.
1980- He fled Iraq to Iran to escape Saddam Hussein’s crackdown on members of the Dawa Party.
1990-2003 – Leader of the London branch of the Dawa Party.
2003- After the fall of Hussein’s regime, he returned to Iraq.
