Now, thanks to a former Apple smart guy and his company Brilliant Labs, you can now experience this amazing technology in a new product: framed glasses. Frame glasses are the world’s first glasses with an integrated multimodal AI assistant. It’s not just stylish. These are designed to give you AI superpowers.

What are Frame AI glasses?
Frame Glasses are smart glasses that look like regular glasses, but feature a powerful Neural Engine CPU that can run multiple generative AI models simultaneously. It also features a color micro-OLED display that projects information directly onto the lens, camera, microphone, and battery.
The frame glasses are compatible with an app from Brilliant Labs called Noa. Noa is an AI assistant that uses OpenAI for visual analysis, Whisper for translation, and Perplexity for web search. Noa learns and adapts to both you and the tasks you receive.

What can Frame AI glasses do?
Frame glasses have many features that make your life easier and more enjoyable. Here are some examples.
Visual recognition: You can ask your frame glasses to identify the objects, people, and places you are looking at. For example, you can say, “What is this?” And frame glasses will tell you what they are, how they work and where they come from. You can also say, “Where am I?” And framed glasses convey the location, history, and culture of the place you’re looking at.

translation: You can have Frame Glasses translate the languages you hear or read. For example, if you say “translate this,” the frame glasses will translate the audio or text you hear or see.

nutrition: Your frame glasses can tell you the nutritional content of the food you’re eating. For example, you can say, “What is this?” Frame glasses tell you the calories, ingredients, and health benefits of the food you’re eating.

Web search: You can ask Frame Glasses to search the web for the information you need. For example, when you say “Search this,” Frame Glasses searches the web for the topic, keyword, or question you’re interested in. Also, when you say “Show me this,” Frame Glasses displays the following information: Results, images, or videos that match your query.

Image generation: You can ask Frame Glasses to generate images based on your description, requests, and imagination. You can also say “create this” and Frame Glasses will create the scene, story, or artwork you requested.

Frame AI glasses numerically
The frame glasses feature a 640×400 pixel color micro-OLED that projects light through a prism in front of the user’s eyes. Provides a diagonal field of view of approximately 20 degrees. The frame glasses also come with a 1280×720 camera, microphone, and 222mAh battery. They are completely open source with few dependencies and run a custom Lua-based operating system with an nRF52840 Cortex-M4F CPU.

How do I get Frame AI glasses?
Frame glasses are available for pre-order for $349. Choose from three colors: black, gray, and clear to suit your personality. If you need prescription lenses, don’t worry, Frame has partnered with Adoptics to take care of that part for you. Glasses frames will start shipping from April 15th.

However, if you want to enjoy the full potential of Frame glasses, you will have to pay a subscription fee for the Noa app. Noa is free to use, but there are daily limits. The startup plans to offer paid tiers through Noa, but there’s no information yet on how much that will cost. However, Brilliant Labs says there are no paywalls or subscriptions, and you can freely use the eyewear in other apps, so you don’t have to pay to use the hardware alone.
