During her time at Nugent Hall’s Business LLC (Living-Learning Community) and working as a social media intern at University Housing, Angela is well acquainted with UIUC’s student housing. To get the scoop, we sat down with her sophomore to find out what life was like at a business LLC and how college housing impacted her first year at UIUC. , and talked about what she recommends to freshmen.
Please introduce yourself and tell us about your activities on campus.
I am a Gies student and interested in studying finance and data science. I am involved with Beta Alpha Psi, a Business Honors fraternity, and EntreCorps, a startup consulting organization. Also this bike organization Illini 4000. Last summer we rode bikes across the country to raise funds and awareness for various cancer causes. I also work at University Housing as a Social Media Assistant.
What is Living-Learning Communities (LLC)?
[In] The Living-Learning Community has one central theme. I belong to a business LLC. I think most of the students here are majoring in business, but you can definitely be part of an LLC even if you’re not majoring in business. [don’t] I have no business background at all.it is really based on [whether] you are interested in business
A nice little community with a variety of special LLC events. [you] can go to We did peer tutoring for business students. We also held a mindfulness event where participants drew pictures on mugs and enjoyed snacks. So in my opinion LLC feels like just a great community where people are united by similar interests. I have enjoyed it so far.
How did your experience at Business LLC influence your experience at UIUC?
I think it definitely had a big impact on my UIUC experience. The Business LLC is where I met my closest friends and it’s really nice that we live so close to each other. [activities]Many of my friends are also in business clubs, so we usually go to events or work together for them. … where I found my community I can assure you. I feel like I belong here.
What unique experiences does Business LLC offer?
Besides the tutoring events I mentioned, some older Jeath students have come out. [to] Check the schedule, offer advice, tell us which courses to take and which not to take. We also offer events on the hiring process, interview tips, and resume writing. There are plenty of materials and many events.
What would you tell students considering a business LLC or general LLC?
I think joining an LLC is definitely worth it. I think one of the biggest advantages is always being surrounded by people who are in the same major as you and who may have the same interests as you. And I definitely encourage new students to interact and make friends with people outside their major. [but] I think just having this tight-knit community provides a lot of resources and support that you wouldn’t get otherwise.
Also, there are events unique to LLC, which I think are fun, especially as a first-year student.Are you worried about getting into college and not finding the right group of people, or trying to integrate into the campus itself. do [was] Definitely very helpful. It makes you feel more welcome.

Please tell us about the jobs at University Housing.
I’m a social media intern.So basically, I help maintain [up] All social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram.my boss will tell me [about] Brainstorm ways to communicate to students through social media posts about various events taking place on campus. I write captions and choose photos. I also help facilitate other housing events such as giveaways and go to various housing events. At the end of the semester, there was Ike’s year-end event, and we went there to get some content and show what was going on and what the students were doing. So it gets content from those events as well.
I’m a social media intern, but I also work outside social media. [get] Also general content. In the past, I have interviewed students about their experiences living in housing. In fact, all kinds of content you see at college housing events is the kind of project I work on. I have had a really great experience so far.
Please give some advice to new students. First: What’s the best advice for students looking for roommates?
Taking the online quiz was very helpful as I could find out what their lifestyle was like and if it matched my own. As general roommate advice, check your priorities and interests. It’s a difficult process to understand. Because it varies from person to person. just be open minded. Also, ask if there are any family members or friends who can provide some insight. I know the UIUC Reddit page is very helpful for new students, so I’d like to consider that as well.

Any advice on choosing a dormitory?
As for public housing, University Housing website have many resources. I also made content for new students, [like] POV videos to show students what it’s like to live in various college housing estates. These are resources you can use beyond just looking at our social media pages, looking at Reddit, looking online, asking people. There are also some excellent YouTube videos made by past students. [might] want to live.
Finally, do you have any general advice for students considering UIUC?
Come to campus with an open mind and stay true to yourself. I know when I first came to campus I thought I had to portray this false version of myself in order to make friends. I believe I can attract the right person for my life.
