Few have served the nation as brilliantly as Justice Clarence Thomas. Fewer still faced further hostility during his service. Shortly after he stepped off the bench, a New York Times editorial page denigrated Thomas as the country’s “brutalest justice.”
Attacks are still going on. Those who know Thomas, or are even slightly familiar with his work, understand these attacks as they are. A desperate and malicious attempt to discredit and discredit a great man.
Thankfully, Judge Amr Taper, one of America’s sharpest legal minds, has written a wonderful book that gives the Times absurd nickname a lie and gives Clarence Thomas a more fitting title. “People’s Justice”.
Thomas lashes out at Jackson’s ‘racist worldview’ in Supreme Court ruling outlawing affirmative action
Law books aren’t always page-turning, but this one is. Tapar brings law to life. Lawyers will certainly read, enjoy, and learn from People’s Justice, but this is a book for all Americans. With its engaging storytelling and conversational tone, Tapar reminds us, as Thomas often reminds us, that the Constitution belongs to all of us.

Tapar skillfully explains how Thomas perceived the constitution to protect working mothers of two children who were discriminated against in law school because of their skin color. . Or a blue-collar nurse with multiple jobs who has had his home robbed by greedy corporations and aggressive governments.
Page after page, Mr. Tapper, with Thomas’ own words and arguments, shakes to the heart of the argument that defending the Constitution means valuing a piece of paper above the lives of ordinary people. In fact, the Constitution is the great bulwark of our freedom and prosperity. In the words of Frederick Douglass, it is the “Glorious Liberty Document.”
When judges overthrow the Constitution in favor of their desired outcome, certain cases may be favorably ruled. But in doing so he undermines the rule of law and the will of the people.
Abraham Lincoln warned that anyone who renounces the Constitution and the rule of law would “trample the blood of the father and . . . violate the charter of liberty for himself and his children.” As one of the most staunch defenders of our constitution in history, Thomas will also be remembered as one of the most staunch defenders of our freedom.

Readers of People’s Justice will have a greater appreciation of our constitution and a new respect for Thomas’ brilliance. And with constant reliance on the Founding Fathers, some of America’s greatest heroes, and her most influential documents, Thomas’ opinion provides not only law but also civil rights education.
Readers will also be able to get a glimpse of men’s hearts.
Judges are often imagined to be deadpan, hard-hearted, moody people. Even a moment with Thomas could dispel that thought. His laughter is deep, bursty, unique and always makes those around him smile.
And he always looks out for those around him. In the book’s foreword, Tapah recalls that Judge Sonia Sotomayor, a colleague of Thomas for more than a decade, said of Thomas:[H]He cares deeply about the court as an institution, the people who work there, the human beings. ”
