“The Last” armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reid has been found guilty of manslaughter in the death of cinematographer Halina Hutchins.
variety report The jury reached the verdict in less than three hours of deliberation. Sentencing is scheduled for April, and Gutierrez-Reed could face up to 18 months in prison.
After the verdict, juror Alberto Sanchez told reporters outside the courthouse that it was a “fair” verdict. He said, “Someone died. You have to take responsibility. Especially when you handle weapons…that’s your job.”
He added: “She could have paused her work, stopped, and cleaned everything up, but she didn’t. It was her job to inspect these bullets, these firearms. ”
Gutierrez-Reid is the character who accidentally loads Alec Baldwin’s pistol with live ammunition in a scene from The Last.
In October 2021, Baldwin, an actor and producer of “Lust,” fired a gun that killed Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza on a set in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
