Food at home
The Food at Home Index fell 0.4% in April, the biggest decline since September 2020, reflecting five declines in the food groups of six major grocery stores.
The recent upward trend has reversed as egg prices plummeted by 12.7%, resulting in a 1.6% decline in the meat, chicken, fish and egg index. Prices were also found in cereal and bakery products (-0.5%), fruits and vegetables (-0.4%), dairy and related products (-0.2%), and other foods at home (-0.1%). Meanwhile, the non-alcoholic beverage index rose 0.7%.
Over the past year, the Food at Home index has increased by 2.0%. During that time, eggs increased by 49.3%, and the index of meat, chicken, fish and eggs increased by 7.0%. Non-alcoholic beverages increased by 3.2%, dairy and related products increased by 1.6%, while other foods in the home increased by 0.7%. The index of cereal and bakery products remained unchanged, with prices for fruits and vegetables falling 0.9%.
Food away from home
In April, food increased by an additional 0.4% as both full-service meals (0.6%) and limited-service meals (0.3%) contributed to the increase. Foods away from home have experienced a total increase of 3.9% over the past 12 months, with full-service meals increasing by 4.3% and service meals increasing by 3.4%.
