Google has announced a new addition to Maps, known as the “Timeline” feature, designed to help users remember places they’ve previously visited. In the near future, this timeline will be stored securely on your device, giving you more control over your personal data. This remarkable attribute is made possible by the implementation of a feature called Location History.

In a recent blog post, the tech giant assured users that if you’re buying a new phone or are worried about potentially losing your current device, you have the option to safely store your data in the cloud. Did.
By choosing this backup solution, users can prevent data loss. Additionally, Google emphasized that it takes the privacy and security of user information seriously by automatically encrypting backed up data and making it unreadable by anyone, including Google.
Additionally, note that the company specifies that when you enable Location History for the first time, the automatic deletion control will initially be set to 3 months as a default setting. This means that data beyond this period will be automatically deleted.

Previously, the default setting for this option was 18 months. However, if you want to keep your memories on your timeline for a longer period of time, you can choose to extend the time period or disable the automatic deletion control completely.
Google has announced that these updates will be gradually rolled out to Android and iOS over the next year. Users will receive a notification when an update is available for their account.

Additionally, Google said the blue dot on Google Maps now provides convenient location controls. With a simple tap, users can easily see if their Location History and Timeline settings are enabled and if Maps can access their device’s location.
The introduction of the new blue dot control will begin on Android and iOS platforms in the coming weeks.
