AI still has a long way to go, but let me tell you one thing: Writing in audio is becoming very easy.
You might dictate text messages, but there’s so much more you can do if you start dictating at work. Here’s how, and some tips to make your spoken word shine on the page.

Perform this important Wi-Fi check at least twice a year
Depending on your operating system, version, software, and wind direction (just kidding), these dictation commands may or may not work. But most people will, and it’s definitely worth a try.
- Insert punctuation explicitly, such as the “Kim exclamation” in “Kim!” To insert a word that is also a punctuation mark, such as a “comma” or “period,” say “literal comma” or “literal period.”
- A “new line” or “new paragraph” starts a new idea or section. Say the words “Go to” or “Go after” and move the cursor before or after the word.
- To correct the last thing you said, say “Please correct me.”
- “Select That” selects the last thing you said.
- Say the word “Caps” and capitalize the first letter of the word.
- Say “Select” to select words or phrases, or “Cut,” “Copy,” or “Paste” to edit your document.
- To format text, for example, say “bold”, “italic”, “decrease font size”, or “increase font size”. If you say “highlight” with a color, the text will be highlighted with that color.
- Create a list by saying “Create bulleted list” or “Create numbered list.”

In Word: While signed in to Microsoft 365 on a microphone-enabled device, open a new or existing document,[ホーム]>[ディクテーション]Go to. Wait until the Dictation button is turned on and start listening. Once you start speaking, text will appear on the screen. Easy, easy!
In Outlook: While signed in to Microsoft 365 on a microphone-enabled device, start a new email (or reply to an existing email), select the body of the message, select[メッセージ]go to tab[ディクテーション]Choose. Wait until the Dictation button is turned on and start listening. Once you start speaking, text will appear on the screen.
For Google Docs: Open Google Docs in your Chrome browser.[ツール],[音声入力]Click . A microphone box will be displayed. Click the microphone when you’re ready to speak. Click the microphone again when you’re done.
Everyday tech hacks: From phone shortcuts to webcam magic
For Windows 10: Open the document, email, or other file you want to dictate, then press Windows key+H to launch the dictation toolbar. You can now dictate text. Once done, press Windows Key + H to turn off dictation.
For Windows 11: Press Windows key + H on your keyboard. Then press the microphone icon in the window that appears. To stop dictation, say “Stop listening” or press the microphone button again in the audio input menu.
On macOS: Click your cursor in the app where you want the dictated text to appear. Press the microphone button in the function key row, or[編集]>[ディクテーションの開始]Choose. Once done, press the dictation keyboard shortcut or his Esc key.

PRO TIP: I won’t name names, but there is someone in my life who gets really irritated with smart assistants and talks too loudly. That will only make things worse! For best results, tap into your “inner voice.”
