After a long delay, Ridley Scott’s epic Gladiator is finally getting a second installment. Released in the 2000s, the film has become a cult classic and icon of the period drama genre. Scott is one of the most respected directors for this type of film, and the commercial and critical success of his original work will see him return to helm the project. Those who saw the prequels know how visually stunning the film was for its time, but it’s likely to be a blockbuster now. But we’re not here to delve into information about it, but rather to see a bunch of crazy actors who are reportedly starring in the film.

With a production of this nature, it was only natural for celebrities to appear in the film. And the main character is played by Oscar nominee Paul Mezcal. But he’s not alone, the other cast members are equally gifted. Denzel Washington. You have a great cast, but what was your first film like?
Scott’s vision was a large-scale production.
– Created over 10,000 outfits and over 30,000 pieces of armor.
– They built the Colosseum 52 feet tall. It took seven months to make and cost $1 million.

In the 1990s, people weren’t interested in period dramas, except for the huge success of Titanic. Additionally, Scott was having a tough time as a director, with 1492: Conquest of Paradise, White Squall, and G.I. After his movie “Alien” the situation began to be the same, but Gladiator did not change things for him at all.
Despite the film’s problems, Scott managed to land Russell Crowe, then the first Oscar nominee, to star in the lead role. Others included famous older European actors such as Oliver Reed and Derek Jacobi, as well as young Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen and Djimon Hounsou. The first movie was mostly about newcomers.

As a result, the film had a limited budget as it was produced by upstart studio DreamWorks SKG. Additionally, having larger-than-life actors may have influenced Gladiator’s character. However, the sequel takes a different approach when it comes to casting. For Gladiator 2, instead of new actors, we’re looking for actors who have spent significant time working on VFX-heavy acting projects.
The cast was clearly a marketing ploy, choosing “featured names” to create hype for a movie that nobody needed, even though everyone was great.

Opposite Mezcal and Washington is the villainous Barry Keoghan. He has been nominated for an Oscar for Inisherin’s Banshees, and has also appeared in Dunkirk and Marvel’s Eternals. Stranger Things’ Joseph Quinn joins the cast and internet father Pedro Pascal. Original Gladiator members such as Hounsou and Nielsen will also return to the project. Additionally, Corgan, Quinn, and especially Pascal have directed his VFX projects on a large scale.
The past two decades have also seen a change in the way actors are hired. Gladiators were ready to embrace new faces, but now having a known face helps draw crowds, especially the younger ones. It’s also possible that these names are ready to work with him due to his recent work, including hits like The Martian and The Last Duel. So when Scott calls, the actor answers. We can’t wait to see what Washington and Pascal look like in their fancy sandals.
