(WJET/WFXP/YourErie.com) — A Marianna Borough woman has been sentenced for her role in a 2023 fraud scheme that used government money for personal property.
Erica Pinckney, 39, was convicted of mail fraud and sentenced to two years’ probation and 90 days of home detention, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
According to court information, Pinckney is a former secretary and tax collector for Marianna Borough.
While in office, Pinckney allegedly used a district credit card to pay for personal purchases. To pay off the balance of these purchases, Pinckney reportedly used tax money collected from the borough’s resident tax, water bill, and trash bill.
Before sentencing, U.S. District Judge W. Scott Hardy said Pinckney “committed a serious crime that undermined public confidence in the borough.”
A public hearing to determine the amount of compensation is scheduled to be held in April.
