The eating-at-home index also remained unchanged in February. Half of the food group indexes for the six major grocery stores declined, with the biggest decline being for dairy products and related products, which fell 0.6%. Other household food indicators remained unchanged throughout the month.
Other major grocery store group price changes include:
- Cereals and Bakery Products: +0.5% (-0.2% in January)
- Meat, poultry, fish, eggs: +0.1% (no change in January)
- Fruits and vegetables: -0.2% (+0.4% in January)
- Non-alcoholic beverages: -0.2% (+1.2% in January)
The eating-at-home index has increased by 1.0% over the past year. The index for other household foods and non-alcoholic beverages had the highest rate of increase, both increasing by 2.3%. Dairy products and related products saw the biggest decline over the past year, at -1.8%.
Eating away from home
The out-of-home grocery index rose 0.1%, following a 0.5% rise in January. The full-service meal index and limited-service meal index both rose 0.1%. This follows increases of 0.4% and 0.6% respectively in the previous month.
Over the past 12 months, the out-of-home food index rose 4.5%. During this period, the index for limited-service meals increased by 5.2% and the index for full-service meals increased by 3.8%.
